Whew! Couple days late, but here. Another one of those weeks.
But I got it done before Superbowl! Welcome to the Valentine's
Day edition of the CT. But since we're pretty much all guys
here? Let's...ignore that and call it the Superbowl edition,
shall we? Hurmph!!
Cover Lovin'
I'm trying to not go all Forte on these covers,
I swear, but I just HAD to use this one. I waited for it for
nearly a year. I managed to get a piece from comic pro Andy
Price, and was it worth the wait? Judge for yourself.
Woooow. Check out that great background Seattle art! Seriously,
there's a background. Just look. You can do it. Look aWAY from
the girls... Nice work, Mr. Price. And happy Valentine's Day,
Forte girls. I mean...happy Superbowl! Hurmph!!
Nice Guys Live...for Grandma!

Tim and me raising some
van cash at A-1 Comics!
As if I didn't have enough proof that Brian Peets--owner of
the A-1 Comics stores--was the man, I got a big reminded on
1/27! Brian asked Tim and I to show up for a Nice Guy signing
at one of his stores again, but there was a twist this time.
Brian, a follower of the tale of my van, decided he wanted to
put on a "Pay Back Grandma" fundraiser to raise cash
to pay back my grandmother for her big loan to help me get my
new wheels last summer! Advertised heavily on the A-1 site,
the appearance was a great success. Brian asked us to bring
220 copies of "The Nice Guy: Pilot" comic, and he
bought them off us and asked him to hand them out to folks for
free. So Tim and I got to avoid the usual sales pressure and
just kick back and meet folks and just HAND them a copy instead
of trying to get them to buy one! It was great! We got to make
all kinds of new fans, including one Marine who was about to
ship off to Iraq who was making his last stop at the comic store
before deployment. Great guy. He'll be taking a copy with him.

See Tim Draw. Draw, Tim,
Draw!
Another big part of the fundraising was Tim doing sketches
for folks for $10 each. He managed to get 10 requests while
he was there...and got all but two of them done by the end of
our time there (and will be leaving the other two...done for
a regular A-1 customer...at the store for him to pick up later).
Awesome assist by the Tim Man! Tim also got to do some art critiques
while he was there, and we got to give some helpful advice to
some aspiring comic creators. All in all, a fantastic way to
launch my new fundraising site...PayBackGrandma.com...which
is now live!

The van at A-1 Comics (in
case the sign didn't give that away...)

Browncoat buddy Ray, Tim,
Kelli and me at Street of London
Okay, so since he's not around to brag for himself, I'll do
it for him.
This week was the week that Tim's new girl--Browncoat Kelli,
whom Tim met at the Browncoat Ball, as you may recall--made
her first trip to Sac to hang out and meet Tim's family and
pals. Tim's made a couple of trips to Phoenix, where she lives
(including for New Year's), and Friday night we all got together
at our favorite Sac hangout, Streets of London. Had a great
time meeting her. Great girl, and a fabulous catch for Mr. Watts.
And plans are already in the works for her to make it to Comic-Con
this year, so a few of YOU may just get to meet her, too. Any
girl who loves Firefly and whose favorite film is the Fifth
Element is okay in my book... And I'll get a chance to hang
out with her tomorrow, when we get together at our friend's
house for...Superbowl! Hurmph!!
Next Issue Deadline
Deadline for the next CTO issue is March
31, 2007, for inclusion in the April 1, 2007 issue
(watch out for a crafty April Fool's joke, where I may just
get it out on time...). Just put your stuff on a web page (or
in a PDF) and e-mail the link (or the file) to me at:

Let's get this Winter crap out of the way, shall we? See you
