Words and News from Yer Central Mailer for CTO #15

Talk about your Summer of 'Times! This year's Clobberin' Con has just ended, and the big Forte 20th anniversary is about the begin! And a major 'Times fiction milestone to boot! So much celebration, so little time! So let's get on with it!

Cover Lovin'

This issue's cover is a fine color piece from artist Mark Kuettner, one that celebrates the 100th AMERICANA STORY!!! A huge milestone for both America's Mightiest Girl and her creator, K.C. Ryan, who began her tales 15 years ago in the original Clobberin' Times as part of the ConTinuum shared fiction project. The end of the 'Times (in print) didn't end things for Americana, and K.C. has continued cranking out her exciting adventures for all of us to enjoy. So congratulations, K.C., and congratulations, Americana, on this amazing centennial moment. Thanks for the fun, the action, the drama and the memories. Many more to come!

Clobberin' Con XVIII is Historical

A few of the folks at the Joss Whedon panel during the 2007 Comic-Con International

As I said before it began, didn't look like a big showing of 'Timers at the annual Clobberin' Con in San Diego this year (among OUR peeps, that is. The Comic-Con itself? Sold out for the first time EVER). Just one of those years. It's amazing so many of us have been able to make it as often as we have, frankly. So, a small year, but another great time. On the 'Timer side, me and Aaron "A.T." Thompson flew down together (and met up with our pals Russ and Tony, with all of us staying at Tony's place, where he and his family graciously turned their home into our Con hotel). We also got to meet up with Ben and Kaye Bellot for an evening of barbecue and good company at Ben's family's timeshare on the beach in La Jolla. They were only able to make it for the one night, but we made the most of it. Plus we got to hook up and hang out with old 'Timer Mike Taylor, the one who I ran into at last year's Con after losing track of him almost twenty years earlier. We had a great time with all, but are definitely looking forward to getting K.C., Martin, Jeff, Joel and Tim back in the mix next time. And maybe even a few more...

As for the details, I ran out of time (due to the Con itself) to do a big write-up here or post up my photos, but I'll be blogging about it on my nerd blog site, "The Geek Side", soon. Maybe AFTER the Forte Anniversary Weekend, of course (see below). And I'll try to get all my photos up, too. So I won't spoil too much, but there are a few good celebrity stories (A.T. and I got to hang out with Jane Wiedlin! If you're like most people I tried to tell this story to at work, you're asking "Who's Jane Wiedlin?". She's somebody who's got her own copy of the Nice Guy comic now, I'll tell you that!), some great panels to talk about (the one with the whole cast of Heroes clearly being the big winner), and a lot of awesome San Diego stories, as always. Stay tuned for that, and consider joining us one of these summers!

Forte 20th Anniversary Seattle Celebration Days Away!

And the big event is this Friday! Yours truly, Randy "Anvil" Auer, Jim "Tomarssuk" Kletzing and Adam "Lightsedge" Johnson will be hopping a plane to Seattle Friday morning, where we'll be meeting up with Aaron "Dyna Girl" Storck, K.C. "The GM" Ryan and Jeff "Vanguard" Baumgardner to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the campaign that not only gave us so many great memories, but made friends of all of us for life. We'll be hanging out in Forte's own home town, checking the sights and having a grand time, and sitting down Saturday night for K.C.'s running of the 20th anniversary Forte game. Should be one for the record books. Stay tuned next time for details and photos. Long live Forte! Wait...it already has...

Next Issue Deadline

Deadline for the next CTO issue is September 30, 2007, for inclusion in the October 1, 2007 issue. Just put your stuff on a web page (or in a PDF) and e-mail the link (or the file) to me at:

Enjoy the last of your summer (I know I will), and enjoy this edition of the 'Times!
