Oh, the weather outside is...awesome!
Spring is in full swing as we return for another exciting Clobberin'
Times issue. Many 'Timers find themselves sporting their months-closeted
tee shirts and enjoying outdoor activities again. Here in California,
we greet this latest issue with near-80s sunny weather. Bad
economy, rockets from North Korea, favorite TV shows on the
verge of cancellation as May sweeps approach? Feh! Who can feel
down when the sky is this blue? Summer movies are coming! Long
days and warm nights are coming! Clobberin' Con is...
Well, more on that in a minute...
Cover Lovin’

The dramatic return of Forte fav (and Americana, too) artist
Eryck Webb, with a color interpretation of his own costume design
for Diamond Fist, a member of the Forte world hero team, the
new Paragons. Thanks for coming through in grand style once
more, Mr. Webb!
Clobberin' Con XIX Falls Victim to Crap
Economy!

I'm afraid it's looking like this summer will
be the first no-show Clobberin' Con since the events inception...at
least in total. Some of us are now without jobs. Others have
other things in the way. Some are saving up to make the big
20th anniversary event next summer. Whatever the reason, it
looks like few, if any, will make the journey to San Diego this
summer for the annual gathering at Comic-Con International.
I know I'm homebound, as is Mr. Watts. Mr. Levy, like me, is
jobless so can't really justify the trip. Con pal regular Russ,
too, is out of work and stuck in Boise. As I recall, Martin's
not going to be able to make the trip, and I think it's the
same with K.C. (correct me if I'm wrong). I don't know if Ben
and Kaye have plans to make it. And not sure on Jeff, either.
But it's definitely not the standard gathering, and while that's
unfortunate, I'd say we've done pretty good so far, especially
considering how far we've all spread out, unlike the early days
when most of us were in California. This will only be my second
Con missed since the first Clobberin' Con, so I can't really
complain.
Maybe it's for the best. That way, we can all
save up, and hopefully get as many of the gang as possible to
hop those planes for Clobberin' Con XX in 2010 (isn't that The
Year We Make Contact (tm)?) and celebrate our twentieth anniversary
in big numbers and big style! Start planning now!
