T H E T E A M FORGE is a super-hero team operating out of San Francisco, California. Founded in 2005, it came into being when Commander Sydney Todd-Strange of UNCLE (United Network Command for Law Enforcement) San Francisco—formerly the super-heroine called The Mist and a founding member of Seattle’s famed hero team Forte—saw things spiraling out of control in her city with severely increased super-villain and mystical activity. She decided to form a new American hero team, with her as its leader, and recruited three fellow former Forte heroes—Anvil, Nightshift and Secundus—one current Forte member—Max—and the novice heroine Heatspell. Her hope is that a hero presence in the city will help turn the tide. B A S E O F O P E R A T I O N S Forge operates out of a hidden underground base in the downtown area, a former base for a super-villain team called the Dominators that killed themselves with a bomb they were planning to blackmail the city with. The high-tech base sports advanced computer, communications and defense systems, a city-wide surveillance network with 360-degree camera views, a large combat training center, an Olympic-sized pool with spa and sauna, living quarters, science labs, a large vehicle bay that houses the team’s various modes of transportation, and a direct (if not legal) link to the UNCLE communications system and database. Tunnels lead from the base to alternate exits in other parts of downtown and to a hanger out in the bay that houses their jet. T R A N S P O R T A T I O N For transportation, Forge uses highly-modified Ducati motorcycles, each brandishing the Forge logo. Though several members can fly, Mist prefers the use of the motorcycles to keep the heroes visible and down among the people to make their presence known and engender trust among the citizens. They also have several surplus SHIELD flying cars—ranging from sedans to minivans—that can change their paintjob at the press of a button (“smart paint”) and go from sporting the Forge logo to looking like a normal civilian vehicle. Finally, Forge has its own submersible VTOL jet called the Katana for longer-range travel, which is primarily piloted by Anvil. M I S S I O N While patrolling and reacting to calls is part of Forge’s routine, they are also a pro-active, mission-based hero team, actively looking to take out cells of villain activity, gang- or mob-controlled areas, covens, terrorist havens, and the like. They try to walk a thin line between aggressive operations—to bring safety back to the city—and keeping their public image from labeling them overreactionary and garnering protests from the citizens they’re protecting. They work closely with the UNCLE San Francisco office to coordinate intelligence and maximize their efforts, and also to make that they, as heroes, are handling the threats that UNCLE agents are not equipped to deal with. T H E C I T Y Modern San Francisco has become a haven for dangerous elements of all kinds, with, until recently, no hero presence to dissuade them. Super-villains rob and destroy with brazen abandon, knowing that the UNCLE forces are stretched too thin to stop them. There is also a freelance villain-for-hire network running somewhere within the city, where villains come from around the world to take high-paying jobs. Magic is out of control in the city, with magical tongs, mystic gangs, covens, death cults and demons all-too common in the dark corners of the city by the Bay. Domestic terror groups have set up operations within the city as well, and mob activity is at an all-time high, with mobs turning, more and more, to high-tech weapons and genetic augmentation. Forge intends to root all these elements out and drive them from the city forever, and let them know that they no longer own San Francisco. |
