Little is known at this time about the origins of Heatspell, other than that she has history with Mist--and Mist's husband, Stephen Strange--and that her father is someone they all seem to fear. After apparently having spent some period of time in San Francisco, she was operating as a solo hero in Boston when Mist appeared and unexpectedly offered the still-untested heroine a place on the new hero team--one filled with seasoned Forte legends--called Forge.

Heatspell controls magics related to fire--Hellfire, specifically. She can project and harness this mystic flame, and uses it to blast with, to create barriers, to fly, and can focus it into a semi-solid scimitar of fire that she wields. Her magics also allow her control of "normal" fire, to a lesser extent. When using her abilities, Heatspell manifests mystic symbols on her arms that appear like tattoos. And whatever is behind her powers seems to whisper things to her in her thoughts and often tortured dreams...things that frighten her. A talented artist, Shannon channels her inner demons and rage into paintings that are starting to get her noticed in the art world.

Heatspell is angry, impulsive, defensive, and seems to always have something to prove (perhaps to her mysterious father). She seems to have had a great deal of trauma and abuse in her life, things that have led to self-esteem problems and a tendency toward bad and dangerous personal relationships. But at her core, she's a fighter, and refuses to let anyone, or anything, defeat her, including a troubled past or her own doubts. She's a dedicated Catholic (on her own terms, somehow seeming to compartmentalize her own use of dark magics), a strong and independent person, and a young woman who believes that continuing to do the right thing will make her into the good person she can't seem to envision herself as.
