Things Change, Chapter 3 (June, 2005) Born into a family of very limited means, Nina Alden longed for the things that all the girls in the prep school nearby seemed to have and vowed to rise above her circumstances. Which she did by not only conning her way into the prep school, but conning her parents into thinking she was still attending the local public school. She used her natural brilliance, her hunger for learning (both book things and the more practical), her skill for acting and her ability to read people to get everything she wanted, including conning her way into a prestigious college abroad. It was during her globe-hopping that she met some people that convinced her that she could be getting much more with her talents, and she become part of a notorious (and notoriously hard to catch) international confidence group that got their hands on sizeable fortunes in many nations. But one of their more daring capers went south, and several of them, including Nina, ended up in an Italian jail. Nina's masterful seduction of an Interpol agent, however, managed to make the evidence against her mysteriously vanish, and she walked, but the scare was enough to get her off the life. Until, that was, a famed thief-turned-super-hero named Harry Sullivan approached her with an intriguing job offer that would let her continue to use her talents and make an honest, and impressive, living besides.
