Tracker

(Eric Haines)

First Appearance: Forte #160 (original), Forte 2000: "Kid, You Could Be Making HUNDREDS of Dollars Playing in the Pros..." (latter)

Growing up, Eric Haines realized that he was different than other children. His scientist father realized after a few simple tests that Eric possessed a sensory ability that rivaled (and in some cases even surpassed) the most sensitive laboratory equipment. All five of his five senses appeared to be enhanced beyond human capability, and he even seemed to possess an indefinable "sixth-sense" that alerted him to potential danger.

As a student, Eric excelled in the sciences thanks to his father's influence and his amazing gifts. While his father often spoke of the opportunities that science could offer a man with such gifts, Eric wanted only one thing: to become a costumed crimefighter. He was smart enough to realize that hyper-sensory ability was not the kind of power one relied on to stop criminals, so Eric began a strict workout regimen which included the study of martial arts. While a student at Kent State, Eric helped police locate a co-ed that had been kidnapped. Thus, Eric Haines became Track’r.

Just beginning a successful hero career, Track’r’s path crossed that of Cleveland’s new and wildly famous hero team, the Paragons. After a successful first partnering with him, the Paragons invited the young hero to join them, respecting both his determination and very useful abilities. Track’r became a Paragon, and became an invaluable asset to the team during his time with them, most famously during their final confrontation with General Immortus. But when his father took ill, Eric took leave from the team to help care for him. As such, Eric was not with the team for what ended up being their final mission together.

After many of the Paragons were killed and the team disbanded, Eric turned his back on his costumed identity and resumed his interest in the sciences. After a number of years of consulting for STAR Labs, Eric was contacted by a new multi-lab called NRG that was based out of Seattle. Having learned of his association with the Paragons through contacts at STAR, the NRG team wanted Eric to come consult with them on their study of super-abilities. Years in the lab had dulled the pain of the deaths of his old teammates, and Eric was ready for some new challenges. After spending a majority of his time at NRG in the lab, he asked to be reassigned to the field—simply taking the named Tracker now—where he joined a new group of costumed individuals: Armor Security.
