| The Voice (Trey Macon)
|
First Appearance: Forte
2000 #142
First thrust into the public eye on a popular televised singing competition during its second season, Trey Macon never could have imagined how his life would turn around so quickly. Growing up in the southeast and raised for most of his life by his loving mother Kaye, the young man had planned to pursue a career in special education. However, on a dare, he auditioned for American Superstar. The combination of his "diamond in the rough" looks and his amazing vocal talents were enough to convince the show's three judges to move him into the competition. From his first appearance on the show, he was clearly a fan favorite. For the first ten weeks of the regular competition he managed to avoid being in the bottom vote-getters. The show's ratings also swelled during this second season, in part due to the nation's obsession to catch a glimpse of what the media had been dubbing 'the voice'. But it wasn't just the fans that flocked to the live finale broadcast of the second season. A group of terrorists managed to infiltrate the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and, during the height of the broadcast, announced their intentions to hold the entire place hostage until their demands were met. Trey made a fateful decision at that moment and risked his change at a music career by revealing he in fact possessed super-human abilities. His sonic powers were able to subdue the terrorist group all the while the cameras remained rolling. The crowd cheered and, after the incident was under control, chanted for him to be crowned the with the Superstar title. Trey asked to speak to everyone and, in his natural, humbling way stated that he was withdrawing from the competition. He did not want to win because he had just saved everyone. While he did love singing, he always felt his higher calling was to help others in need. This just increased his popularity with a growing legion of fans and with the media. The shows producers still held him to his contract and offered him a recording deal. He willingly completed his contractual obligations, donating a majority of his earnings to charity. The press continued to hound him wherever he went, wanting to know more details about his past and the origin of his fantastic abilities. Trey would simply smile and say he would not discuss those personal details of his life. The board of directors of Armor Security approached Trey and offered
him a position with their organization. The young man was reluctant at
first until the board agreed to match his salary with an equal, annual
contribution to the charities of Trey's choice. The red-haired young man
agreed to the offer and has been part of the team since. Taking a cue
from the media, Trey's heroic identity is the Voice. |
