Chosen

Real Name: Ambassador K'Jerenn
Home World: Sahdo
First Appearance (official): Forte 2000 #63
First Appearance (actual): Forte 2000 #145

On the opulent and wealthy world of Sahdo, the religion that guides its citizens is the belief that divinity comes from within, from the mind. Not exactly a stretch for a race with highly developed minds capable of both telepathy and telekinesis, as well as advanced intellect. They are the thinkers and philosophers of the Realm, the ones that ponder the deeper things while searching for inner enlightenment. That, and higher station in the complex and vast aristocracy of their world.

K'Jerenn, born third son of the fourth house of Tafis, learned the ways of politics and religion early in both his schooling and family instruction. He excelled in both, soon entering into the priesthood (their priesthood being much more a political body than holy order) and working his way up through the ranks. Cunning yet moral, calm but tenacious, he developed not only his diplomatic skills but also his mental prowess, quickly advancing in both the "mind art" (telepathy) and the "mind arm" (telekinesis). He stood out amongst his fellows and achieved much respect and acclaim in the house conclaves and the thought councils. Eventually he rose far enough to achieve the great honor of being selected as his people's ambassador to the Realm. This person is known, in the ancient tongue of the Sahdo, as the "Pa'kwa'tin"...or, translated into the Realm Standard, the "Chosen". Aside from being a lauded station, it is also the path that the past seven Overseers of Sahdo (the highest possible position in the aristocracy, essentially that of a king) have taken, making it a fast-track to much, much greater things.

Taking a home on the Realm Throneworld, he quickly became a vital part the Realm Council and its many committees. Most were convinced that he would quickly rise to the High Council, and possibly the Grand Council, once he had many more years of experience behind him. He spent his days in political chambers, in meditation, and enjoying the finer things in life (dining, art, opera) that the Throneworld had to offer.

But in his service, he stumbled upon a conspiracy by several High Councilors to subvert Realm law and establish secret trade agreements with the Array, a powerful group of interplanetary organized criminals that all but ruled many non-Realm worlds (and a few Realm worlds as well). Investigating this himself and in secret, he knew that going against such well-placed High Councilors could be political suicide. In the end, he covertly approached the Realmsovereign himself and made him aware of the plot. The Realmsovereign listened to K'Jerenn's ingenious plan to expose the Councilors and worked with him to put it into motion. When it was all over, several High Councilors, a number of ambassadors and even one Grand Councilor found their schemes revealed, their titles stripped, and themselves in Realm prison. Ambassador K'Jerenn become a hero to many, an enemy of others, and a personal friend of the Realmsovereign.

When the Sovereign hatched his plan for the Realmwatch, he approached K'Jerenn about being part of it, due to both his proven trustworthiness and his mental abilities. After a period of consideration, K'Jerenn returned to Sahdo and stood before a full house conclave and proposed the idea, and his intention to accept it. This caused much protest and disagreement, but the unbeatable debater, K'Jerenn, in the end won the final consideration, proving with logic and sound philosophy why this move was the best way for him to represent their people's ways, ideals and beliefs to the Realm.

Still a serving ambassador, "Chosen" (the Realmwatch name he took for himself) divides his time between politics and Realmwatch service. Belonging to the 'Watch all but eliminated his chances of becoming a High Councilor while a part of the team, due to the great time constraints such a position would require. But he believes he's doing right, and using the ways of his people to better the many worlds and the space between them.

Though a powerful telepath, able to both read minds and control others, Chosen is greatly restricted in the use of this ability by the moral and ethical laws of the priesthood he belongs to. He can only read the mind of one who has agreed to the process (on his homeworld, there are very harsh laws for dealing with those who break these protocols). Taking control of others also is something he can rarely do, due to the same types of restrictions. There are a complicated series of conditions that must be met before he will allow himself to do this. All these stipulations cause Blue Victor great consternation, often causing arguments between him and K'Jerenn that pit Victor's raw emotion against Chosen's calm logic (and Chosen generally wins in the end). His greatest asset to the team, aside from his diplomatic skills that have become invaluable on their missions and his keen insights and strategies, is his very powerful telekinetic abilities, which let him move things with his mind, set up protective fields of mental force, and propel himself through the air.

Personally, Chosen is gracious, reserved, and a bit on the prissy side. Some also consider him to be arrogant, something inherent to one whose religion teaches him that he himself is his is own god of his own universe. He's patient and wise, and does have a taste for the finer things, often turning up his nose at lesser pursuits and people with no appreciation for rational thought and reason. He is the ever-present moral voice of the team, causing (most of) them to think before acting.
