History: Lucy is a Seattle native. Her parents, James and Lily Toy were second generation Chinese who met at college. They married, and settled into the suburbs of Seattle, raising Lucy and her brother Daniel. Both Toy parents were gifted--James taught higher mathematics and Lily was a soloist with the Seattle Symphony. When Lucy was ten, she went to National Science camp for the summer while her parents and brother went on a family vacation at Yosemite. Unfortunately, several fires swept the park, and Lucy's family were among the fatalities that year. Lucy has feared fire ever since, and has had a few years of therapy to overcome her phobia
She went to live with her Uncle Max and his close companion Geoffrey over the family restaurant in downtown Seattle. Max and Geoffrey adored her, making her the center of their world. Lucy consequently is very accepting of other people's lifestyles and personalities, and can do a mean Judy Garland impersonation. With their loving support, she graduated early and went on to get a doctorate at Cal Tech. When she returned to Seattle, Boeing offered her a job with their Special Projects division.
After three years, she began to notice problems with some of the designs and systems that were being produced. Flaws and design errors were being ignored or dismissed by management in an effort to keep pace with other tech companies. Lucy and a few other engineers protested, but all efforts to be heard were in vain until the infamous Q hinge flaw.
The Q hinge, a cheap and quick to produce hinge, was supposed to allow the seats in Cessnas and helicopters a greater range of motion for passenger comfort, but instead, it constantly rubbed against the locking bolt. This continuous friction weakened the hinge, and resulted in seats detaching from the floor of the plane or helicopter. Lucy argued that the Q hinge was incredibly unsafe, and threatened to go to the major news networks with her story if Boeing didn't stop production. Boeing's response was to drum up charges of corporate sabotage and fire her (while at the same time, quietly ceasing production of the Q hinge.)
Lucy's only satisfaction came later that month when all the seats in the corporate jet spontaneously detached while hitting turbulence over Las Vegas. No one was seriously injured, but the PR sent stocks tumbling for a week.
With Max and Geoffrey's backing, she bought up a warehouse/hangar on the waterfront, and opened a plane repair shop where she spends her time working on engines. The warehouse holds the shop, her upstairs loft home, and a workshop full of gadgets and tools. Lucy lives there with her dog, Beast, and a few stray cats.
Lucy's life would take an extraordinary turn when bizarre circumstances drove her to create a collection of non-lethal weapons and join with three Seattle super-heroes to save the city of Seattle. Now a hero in her own right, Lucy is known to fans of the new Forte as Tinker.
Power and Abilities: Lucy had created, and continues to create, non-lethal weapons to aid in this life of heroing she's fallen into. Some "toys" of hers include, but are not limited to:
Allergy Bomb--will flood the victims face with allergens and bring on sneezing attacks.
Hiccup Grenade--causes intense spasmodic hiccups by disrupting the diaphragm.
Cramp Spray--sprayed on the calf, it causes a Charlie horse, on the ribs, a side stitch.
Personal fog--a cloud that hovers around the victim's face, blinding them.
Lead Coating spray--triples the weight of the victim, and prevents them from flying.
Knee Lock--a device that locks the knee in sitting position--can be tightened.
Fire Ant Launcher--sort of self-explanatory.
Caffeine Dart--doses a victim to hyper activity and jitters.
Personality: Lucy is quirky, inquisitive and kind. She has a strong
philosophy of violence as a last resort, and because of that, has devised
many non-lethal weapons. She believes that "Anyone can kill--but
not everyone can control." When it comes to love, she is completely
clueless, and has fallen for almost every loser in Seattle. Ever the optimist,
she continues to date, hoping someone out there is right for her. She
loves the Three Stooges, 70's rock and oddly enough, designing fireworks.
