Anubis

First Appearance: Forte 2000 #148

Born to the magical race known as the Homo Magi in pre-dynastic Egypt, Anubis was the eldest of the two sons of Osiris and Isis. Evil in heart and obsessed with death, he accessed forbidden magics and grew in power, and found the way to Amenti, the extra-dimensional land of the dead, where condemned souls were cast. He hatched a plan to kill every living being on Earth and trap their souls there, we he would rule for all eternity. He murdered his father--the king, Osiris, ruler of the gods of Egypt--and made it look as though the crime was committed by Osiris' brother, Seth. Anubis' young brother, the wise and pure-hearted Horus, battled with Seth, as Anubis had planned, assuming Horus would be killed and he, Anubis, would ascend to the throne and, as king, have access to the final magics he needed. But Horus defeated Seth, and Seth was banished to Amenti for all time, while still alive. Anubis' plot was discovered, and he and Horus, the two brothers, battled, and with the help of other Egyptian gods, Horus nearly defeated Anubis. But Anubis escaped into the far future, where his brother could not follow. Horus had himself sealed in a mystical sarcophagus, where he would lie in wait for his brother's return. Throughout the ages, Anubis' followers, the Priest of Anubis, passed their knowledge down through the generations, waiting for their god's return. Horus' followers, too, the Brotherhood of Horus, lived on, and served to hide and protect their god's sleeping form until the great day would come. And that day did finally come, in the early 21st century, when a super-hero group called Forte stumbled upon a plot to steal the sarcophagus of Horus, which led to a chain of events that set them against Anubis, and his continuing plot to destroy all mankind.

Anubis is an incredibly powerful being, strong and nearly impervious, wielding devastating magics. He has appeared again in this age, and Forte is all that stands between him and humanity's complete destruction.
