Gary Trent was always unlucky in life, and an industrial accident proved that, when, while working at a plant in Philadelphia, a mishap--caused mainly by him goofing around--changed him into a being of malleable clay. He gained the ability to stretch his body and change his form at will. This seemed like a positive thing to the lifelong class clown, and he set out to become a super-hero. But his first attempt at it put a couple of officers in the hospital, allowed the villains to get away, and led authorities to believe he was involved in the whole heist and begin hunting him down. On the run and not seeing other options, he took the name Clay and became a freelance villain, choosing jobs which involved money, not the type that involved harming others. His powers have put him in high demand, especially his ability to wear the face and form of others, but his sense of humor, practical joking, and penchant for bad choices and bad luck have often gotten him on the bad side of those he works with. Not a terribly bad person, Clay is also a bit of a romantic and avoids fights with female heroes as much as possible, tending to flirt with them instead of punch them. |
