Villain Guide
| Stingray |
First Appearance: Forte
2000: "The Storm"
A thief who broke into a tech company one night and found an experimental suit of high-tech Armor, Stingray made off with the suit and learned to use it, and started a new career as a villain/pirate, using the suit's underwater systems to troll the waters around Seattle and rob expensive cargo. But his lucrative run soon soured when a new hero in Seattle--someone with a similar suit, someone named Seahawk--got on his trail and started thwarting his efforts. The two fought many times, usually to a standstill, and Stingray would get away, cursing the hero for botching whatever job he'd been on. Their rivalry turned into a deep hatred for Stingray. And it turned tragic when Stingray fell in love with a villainess named Ice Storm, and worked with her during what was to be the score of his lifetime, the theft of a group of mystical items that would earn him enough to retire and run away with Ice Storm. Seahawk got in the way and stopped his first attempt to steal the items. Against Ice Storm's pleadings, his ego, his hatred of Seahawk, and his need to finish the job and get paid and start a new life with her caused him to try again at the theft. She went with him, and Seahawk found them again, and during the long and bloody fight, Ice Storm was inadvertently killed when Stingray and Seahawk's battle collapsed a roof on her. Devastated and grief-stricken, Stingray fled, with the merchandise, and swore vengeance against the hero. Using every resource available to him, he managed to discover Seahawk's secret identity as Jared Banks. And found out about Jared Banks' ex-wife and son. Wanting Seahawk to know loss like him, he attacked the ex-wife's home, with her and Seahawk's son Gabriel inside, all but destroying the house and leaving the boy terribly injured and near death. Nearly insane with grief and guilt and rage, Seahawk disappeared, in the middle of one of the worst storms to hit Seattle in decades, and his teammates in Forte fought desperately to find him--and Stingray--before Seahawk could murder the villain. Seahawk did find him, in the middle of the final deal for the items that would have given the now-hollow Stingray his big paycheck. The two fought in an epic, deadly battle at the Seattle waterfront, both trying to kill the other. Just when it seemed he was on the verge of victory, and about the exact his final revenge, Stingray was struck from the sky by a wrecking ball that he, himself, had put in motion trying to take down Seahawk. His armor destroyed and his body broken, Stingray lay helpless in a dark construction site, and Seahawk attempted to put him down once and for all. Only the timely arrival for his Former teammates to talk him down kept Seahawk from becoming a murderer. Stingray suffered a massive stroke in the ambulance before reaching the hospital, and still lays in a coma to this day, with all of Seahawk's secrets locked within him. |
